“Things end but memories last forever.” I believe in this quote as it reminds me of my childhood (Even though I’m still a child!) I have millions of memories- etching memories, each special in their own way. But there are only a few special ones which I would like to share…
They say that the first impression is the last impression. I didn’t really know about that when I first came at Al Ameen Private School. I was a big crybaby as I missed my mom in school! After a year or so of well-hydrated eyes, my lovely teachers made me feel like home, and with that confidence I met my very best friend, Rukayya Bohra.
Being born in the 21rst century, technology has pretty much taken over communication. All that technology sparked an idea in my first grade teacher’s head. She assigned us a task. We had to write a letter to her and then send it to her via the post office. The process was so captivating which made me flip over it! I felt captured by technology as this was a normal routine in the ‘90s.
As a (smaller) child, I had ginormous incisors. I didn’t care much about it until my horrendous experience in the 3rd Grade. It was horrible! Boys and girls used to call me names like four teeth down (which is a pretty lame name) and baby rabbit. After all this teasing, my social activity meter was at the limit where it reached zero. After a chat with my mom, she furiously complained to my form tutor without my knowledge. Quickly, she took strict action and confronted the bully. I was never teased again but brace yourself because the worst is yet to come!
The teeth grew into a problem as it grew my hatred for smiling in public. Quickly, we consulted my dentist who insinuated that I get braces. I was cool as a cucumber and got braces, which didn’t even hurt or pain. As an eight-year old, my developing teeth were my secret to painless months. As a result, January 4th, 2017, was the date on which I got my temporary metal teeth off!
One of the greatest days of my life was when I had my extraordinary tenth birthday at Ski Dubai, a snow park in the middle of the desert. All my friends came and we had a fantabulous experience! This may have been the most awesome Saturday I have ever had!
In Year 6, the boys and girls had split up for the field trip. Boys were lucky enough to snatch the opportunity to cool at the waterpark. The girls had to bear the heat at a desert safari and the beach! Ughhh! Surprisingly, we were hooked by the different varieties of sports. Sandboarding, dune-dashing, camel-riding were different activities to do there. After an authentic Arabic cuisine meal, we headed to Al Mamzar Park where zip lined and played in the playground.
We didn’t realize how lucky we were until we spotted the tissue-consuming boys hanging around with the flu. This memory taught me to seize the day!
Swimming like a pro was something wanted to cross off my bucket list- which I managed to do (not to brag!). In the summer of 2016, I learned and was trained like an athlete! Front stroke, back stroke, freestyle, dolphin kick, breast stroke, etc. - yes, I know them all…
The best field trip I have ever had was in 2017 because it took place at IMG Worlds of Adventure, the largest indoor theme park in the world! We spun, twirled, plunged, and maybe even threw up after sitting in bedazzling rides! We all have savoured this these moments for life.
In 2017, I left for a two-week vacation to my dream destination, Switzerland! It was beyond awesome! We ate Swiss-milk ice cream, sticky cheese fondue, tobogganed on Mount Titlis, went river-rafting in the rain, went paragliding and even travelled to Italy. We had so much fun that now we can even jump off a cliff.
“Memories make the man” and it’s true. My quirky personality is the product of my vein-bursting memories! It would appear that 50% of my memories occur at school. Well anyways, all memories are lessons…
