LIVING HEALTHY by Tasneem Dalal

One day, in my science class, my teacher was teaching us about what different types of food contain and how they are harmful or beneficial for us human beings. She made us make a table with healthy and unhealthy foods, each on one side. It was an informative and creative class. That day I learned something very new and very informative but it wasn’t enough to open my eyes.

First let me tell you about myself. I was a very fat kid who stood distinct for her laziness, short-temper, extreme frustration and high levels of irritation. I always talked rudely with everyone, even my family, friends and teachers, so I wasn’t the one that people wanted in their group for a project or just a simple hangout. I was obstinate and was in no way ready to compromise with my normal, everyday routine and was contented to remain in my comfort zone. I ate with completely no regrets. Realization failed to dawn on me. I ignored my weight and continued being satiated eating my precious junk food.

So my science teacher called me as she wanted to have a talk with me about my ‘unhealthy lifestyle’. “Dear you’re bloating! You’re already more than overweight and if you don’t lose all this extra fat then it will be extremely harmful for you in the future.” I agreed to do something about my extra fat and for a start, I ate fruits for lunch. As soon as I reached home, I immediately forgot about my agreement with my science teacher and went back to being a couch-potato. I spent the whole day watching TV and eating chips which resulted in me forgetting to do my science homework. After two weeks of observation, my science teacher called my parents and me for a serious discussion of my incessant increase of extra fat.

After that long and serious discussion, I finally realized my mistake. “It still isn’t too late to change, dear. You can do it! That is if you really want it and have a clear intention.” My science teacher reassured me. That was the turning point in my life where I transformed myself completely. I started exercising and eating a bowl of salad once a day. I cut down my candy and junk food intake per day. I became friendly, patient, a go-getter and an easy-going girl. Many people wanted to be my friend. I regained my self-esteem and confidence. My transformation provided me with a new lease of life and it had an impact on my scores in school – they got better! So yes, it is true that, “LIVING HEALTHY IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS!”
