INTERNET ADDICTION by Sarrah Vaziri

Every human being living in the 21st century has at least once been in the never ending sea of the internet. It’s a place where you can socialize, educate yourself, have fun and be part of the latest trends and traditions. You can spend hours looking at the same jokes or talking to the same person but somehow still feels like it’s something new. Now, at first glance, you might ask yourself why this is such a bad thing. It is the best thing since sliced bread but what appeal to you at first can betray you in no time. The problem isn’t the internet; the problem is the inability to ever leave.

Strangely, most people are aware of the harms the internet does to eyes, brain and to the people around us. People are aware of the fact that they should go out more instead of cooping up in their room all day spending time with people you can’t even see in real life. Obviously, spending time outside with nature and productively doing activities and your hobbies is a far cry from seeing other people doing it on a bright plastic box with harmful rays. Nowadays people aren’t aware of the time they get outside of their devices is a blessing in disguise. At first look it may seem like torture but on the contrary, it is the true escape from the World Wide Web. Haven’t you always longed for doing something in you spare time?

“The internet is so big. So powerful and pointless that for some people it is a complete substitute for life” This is an excellent quote which shows how vulnerable people are against the internet. Coincidentally, the term ‘addiction’ is defined as physically dependent on a substance or activity. While the main purpose of the internet was to pass our time, at this stage, it consumes our time to a point where we forget our responsibilities.

Most contents on the internet are fake because that provides entertainment but if fake thing don’t stop then there is a point where you don’t realize what is fake and what is real. That leads to giving the benefit of the doubt to anything you see on the internet as it may bring you harm. Haven’t you always thought about the things you’ve read on the internet which you thought were fake but decided to believe anyway. The internet ambushed, captured and trapped you for life.

Keeping the brilliant quote in mind saying, “Internet addiction directly influences the growth of minors. There should be no delay in the restriction of harmful internet addiction”. We should all realize that it’s not too late and nothing is impossible. First step to solving any problem is realization. Hopefully. People might realize the damage done by the internet and once that happens then the rest of it can be accomplished because after all, nothing is impossible.
