UNVEILING THE REIGN OF FRIGHT by Arwa Vora
It is okay to dislike someone, it is even okay to dislike someone for no reason but it is not okay to disrespect , degrade and humiliate them because blowing out their candle doesn’t make the bully’s any brighter… pulling someone down will never reach you to the top. Isn’t it kind of silly to think that tearing someone down builds you up?
Pulling someone down is basically unwanted, aggressive behaviour between a population with an imbalance of power. It is called bullying, and is a very serious and possibly lasting problem. It includes threatening someone, spreading rumors, physically or verbally attacking someone.
So… how do you know its happening? If you see someone/the bully using their power- such as physical strength, access to embarrassing photos or information or even popularity- to control or harm others, it’s happening. However, it could change over time even though they involve the same people, the victim might grow up to save the life of a bully as a surgeon.
There are types… surprising. Firstly there is Verbal Bullying, teasing, calling names, saying or writing mean things etc. in most cases this could lead to something incurable and horrendous. Secondly there is Social Bullying. It’s all about hurting someone’s reputation or destroying relationships. This happens because some people just don’t understand that ruining love and friendship is the worst crime of all. Lastly there is Physical Bullying… *sad*. It is hurting someone or their possessions ignorant of how it affects the other side.
To keep things official and federal, he 2014 and 2015 school crime supplement indicated that worldwide, 21% of student aged 12-18 experienced bullying, while 20% of student in grades 9-12 reported of being bullied on school property.
As it is said, No problem is insurmountable with thought. So here are some ways to beat bullying at your school.
1. Stand up for people who are bullied because Bullies often want an audience and approval.
2. Take an anti-bullying pledge that you will not tolerate it.
3. Take action, if they do it again walk up to the biggest one of them all without a word and do something to make sure they get your point.
4. Talk to other kids, make a union to make sure the principal makes this *obstacle* a priority to be solved.
5. Talk to your parents or guardians. Ask them for ways you can overcome it because running away from a problem is a race you will never win.
The solutions above might not be the perfect ones but all I want to say is, when people hurt you over and over again think of them as sandpaper. They may scratch and hurt but in the end you will end up being polished and they will end up useless. Why fit in when you can stand out? So “be yourself because the people who mind don’t matter and the people who matter don’t mind.”
