THE SELF REALISATION by Zainab Mustafa
The nurse knocked at the door, handing me a medical report of my grandfather. I was dying to know what really happened to my grandfather. As I unfolded, the envelope there came very unfortunate and unwelcoming news that said that my grandfather had a very dreadful cancer.
It all started a year ago when my family left my grandfather at the old age home because of financial problems. My parents convinced them that they would bring my grandfather home within a month, as soon as the crisis would end. My grandfather trusted my parents and they lived at the old age home, knowing that they would return within a month. Nevertheless, who knew that the one month would extend and extend to one year? My parents even promised them that they visit them every weekend. However, they did not keep their promise, and never visited them, not even once.
Whenever my grandfather called us, my father would never pick up their call, or sometimes tell them that he was busy or something and always ignore them. As soon as I got the news that our economic crisis is over, I would complain my parents to get grandfather back home, but he always ignored me and sometimes he used to scream at me that I should shut up and get back to my room.
After a month or two, I was convinced that my parents would never bring my grandfather’ home, so I used to visit them every Friday and Saturday secretly with my friends, because I knew that my parents wouldn’t allow me to visit my grandfather.
As my grandfather stepped into the house my father shouted in his top voice “Who allowed you to get in here? You don’t have my permission to get here. This is my house.” I got so shocked to see my father in such a mood. Probably this was the first time I saw him in this attitude. I didn’t know what to do! After hearing and seeing my father like this, my grandfather just turned his back and made me realize “Look child, I’ve lost my place in this house it was better living in that old age home. Now please never bring me in front of you father.” He cried.
As we were heading back to the old age home my grandfather just fainted. I called the ambulance and took him to the hospital.
I rushed to my home and told my dad about this, my dad didn’t worry at all, and instead he said it’s not a big deal. I screamed at my father “DAD! Who was the one who held your hands when you didn’t know how to walk? , who gave your school fees? Imagine if I did the same thing with you when you grow old will it make you happy? After saying this father started crying and rushed to the hospital to say my grandfather sorry. He even brought him home.
I was so happy seeing my grandfather happy.
