JERRY'S DILEMMA by Ruqaiya Khomosi
“Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose”.
The day had again started with the wrangling of Jerry, an eighteen year old teenager, and his mother Martha. Jerry spent most of his time on the computer controlling games or creating digital arts. Jerry was a striking student in the field of Arts but his mother wanted him to pursue commerce.
The wrangling regarding Jerry’s future continued every day. After a few days, getting fed-up by the routine (debates or quarrels), Jerry decided to pursue commerce half-heartedly. He felt that his parents were experienced and would select the best for him. So with a positive approach Jerry decided to move on and fulfill his parents’ wishes.
Weeks passed and Jerry tried his best to study although he didn’t understand most of it. Jerry took special classes and coaching to cope-up with others in his class. Months passed and it was time for the first-term examinations. Jerry spent sleepless nights studying but most of it went above his brains.
When the first-term examination results were declared, Martha saw that how poorly Jerry had performed in Commerce and how well he had performed in Arts. She realized that she had taken a wrong decision by making Jerry forcefully pursue commerce. She understood that she had to change her decision and decided to let Jerry pursue arts.
After lot of hardship Jerry’s school (Gems Westminster) allowed him to change his course and join with the arts batch. Jerry easily cope-up with his classmates and topped. When the final results came out Martha saw that Jerry had aced in arts and had got scholarship from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills (world’s top-rated university in America).
Life in his dream university was not easy. His parents and tutors had many expectations from him but he couldn’t meet up with that mark. Gradually Jerry’s confidence started dwindling but Jerry didn’t lose hope and continued facing the worst stages to accomplish his drams and make his parents and teachers dreams.
As the years passed Jerry grew up to become a renowned artist. Today his story is known around the world as ‘The story of an enthusiastic learner’.
