ENCOURAGING SPORTS by Ibrahim Saasa
In this time of era with all sorts of electronics, from game boys to big consoles; from smartphones to huge laptop- Children are not playing sports and usually find their faces 2-inches away from the screen and turned themselves into a couch potato. Children constantly need to be reminded that too much of something is not good and that if they keep playing on their phones it’ll cause damage to their bodies and eyes.
If you give a child a choice between playing on their phone and playing outside; at the drop of a hat, they would choose their phones. That is why you should give a more complex choice, so that they are stuck between two stools and take time to decide carefully. It is very important for children at the age of 10-18 are healthy and fit and are enthusiastic to play, learn and teach. Playing sports not only benefits children with great fitness, but also refreshes them and makes them energized so that they can work throughout the whole day. It is also possible for children to become athletes in the future due to the influence of their sports icon.
For example- Messi: Messi had a bolt for soccer. He as a child was good in studies, was from a good middle class family and was also fit. He started playing at the age of. At the age of 16 he had permanently joined the Catalan giants, the Football Club Barcelona in 2000. Messi has been in the club for more than 15 years. Now he is 30 and is worth £115,000,000 and is considered to be one of the best to live on this earth as a footballer.
Another example is the great basketball player Michael Jorden. He wasn’t so good in his studies at that time and his family was not doing well. He began his journey at the age of 10. There are others, so many like him, who have started just the way he did- like Le Bron James, Stephen curry and many more. We as the parents and elder siblings need to encourage sports to the little children and the grown teens. Most importantly, sports and activities shouldn’t be just played by the children but the parents as well must take part in this daily activity for their health is important as well.
The athletes have also something to say to the young generation-
Messi: ‘’You can overcome anything only if you love something enough.’’
Michael Jordan: ‘’The game has its ups and downs, but you can never lose focus of your individual goals and you can’t let yourself be beat because of lack of effort’’.
